Gromit’s story began when I picked him up from the Pasadena SPCA in 2004, I’ve been to the SPCA on numerous occasions but it wasn’t until he showed up that I decided to put in an adoption request. I was very excited because I was the first on the list, however, on adoption day, “someone” had apparently misplaced the name of another person who wanted to adopt him as well… luckily their dog was not able playing well with Gromit and they lived in a tiny little 500 sq. ft. apartment. Then after 30 minutes of interview and socializing with him, away we went ;-)
Throughout the years, Gromit was put through obedience training, where he learned basic commands such as Sit, Down and Stay. There are 2 favorite tricks that we can think of, one is to have him sit at the edge of the kitchen door and wait as we pour his food into his dish, and the other is balancing a treat on his nose. Both commands end with an “OK”, which is his cue to EAT! ;-) Similar to most dogs, food is the driving force for him to do just about anything =P
Gromit had a fun life with us, dressing up for several holidays to join in on the festivities ;)
In 2006, while playing in the backyard, he escaped and ran out into the streets, where he had an unfortunate accident with a car, and the horrible driver drove off!!! GASP! ! :(
After a traumatic few weeks, Gromit was back to his old self, which is a fun loving beagle ;) To this day, his right rear leg is not fully functional, he’s able to support himself on it, but unable to walk regularly. However, that doesn’t prevent him from doing what he does best, which is jumping onto the couch when no one is home ;)
I moved to Hong Kong in June of 2008, due to HK’s environment, I did not want to bring Gromit with me to HK. He has been living with my parents over the last 2 years at their home in San Gabriel. However, my parents are no longer interested in taking care of him in the long run, hence we would need to put him up for adoption. Given the condition of his foot, there isn’t much you need to do other than putting on a footie (kinda like a hard sole sock) for him during the day, so he does not scratch up or damage the foot. Then at the end of the night, take off the footie to allow for air circulation ;)
Please let us know if you would like to adopt him, we would like to limit this adoption to our friends, and if you know of any friends of yours that has a loving family, please send this to them as well. Please take note we would like to only go as far as friends of friends at this time, which is only 1 level removed from us. If you’re receiving this from a friend of ours, please do not forward it on further at this time, but do notify us if you believe someone would love to adopt him.
Many thanks to those that are helping us pass along this note and hope we can find a loving family who may be interested in adopting him ;)
